"The mission of Sacred Heart Catholic School, in partnership with our families and church, is to assure that we demonstrate Christian values and academic excellence while actively learning about Christ."
Today we celebrate Pentecost and the gift that is the Holy Spirit. This is a fitting celebration as we recognize our 5th graders who will be moving on from Sacred Heart School next year. We are confident in their abilities and know that they will let the Holy Spirit lead and guide them through middle school, high school and beyond! We are so proud of all of them and can't wait to see the impact they have on the world. There is a small video tribute to the class of 2021 below.
This week is our final of this strange but successful year. In August there was a great deal of uncertainty and questions about how this year would go. Well, we not only survived it, but we did so in an emphatic way. We were able to remain in person for the whole year, we saw growth in all of our classes, and we managed to have fun doing it! This is a testament to all of the time the teachers put in, the extra responsibilities that the entire staff took on, and of course the cooperation from all of you. I continue to be honored to be surrounded by so many dedicated and passionate individuals who come together to make Sacred Heart the amazing place that it is. Now, we're ready to get back to more regular routines next year!
This will be our last email of the year, so there is a lot of information included. Please take some time to read through everything. There will be a survey sent out in the next couple of weeks to help us get your thoughts on the year and what you would like to see from SHS moving forward. Please take time to respond to these as they are extremely helpful for us as we plan for next year and beyond. Also, if you are leaving SHS for whatever reason, we will be sending exit interviews to again get your perspective on things. Lastly, we will be sending communication periodically throughout the summer to ensure that you are up-to-date on the state of the school and to make sure that you are ready to go for next year.
If you have any questions or concerns over the summer, you can continue to call or email. The office will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 - 3 if you need to talk or drop anything off.
I hope that you all have an amazing summer. While we are all looking forward to a nice little break, we are also excited for what is to come next year. Please continue to have the students read, or read to them, write, draw and discover. Learning is not something that only takes place at school. In fact, some of the most lasting lessons they will have will happen at home when you take advantage of those teachable moments. Also, don't forget about the faith. Keep Sunday routines of attending mass, pray before meals, use those quiet summer nights to say a Rosary. Be the example of Christ in your children's lives.
I will miss you all.

A Fond Farewell...
Mrs. Kellie has not only been a fabulous PE teacher for the school and teacher at the Child Care Center, but she has also been a remarkable model by leading a faith-filled life. She was head of the parish's pro-life activities, a leader for the youth-group, and one of the heads of the Ice Box Soup Kitchen. The students loved having PE with her as she kept them active, engaged, and always having fun. Kellie will be moving back to Nebraska with her husband Blake to be closer to family. We will miss her a great deal! Good luck and God Bless!
Mr. Duryea will be moving on from the school but will remain the music director for the parish. Michael has provided our students with classical approaches to singing and playing the piano. Beyond being a great music teacher, Michael has been an amazing witness, often helping with morning prayer and even leading it at times. We will miss having him at the school but are happy that we will still be able to see and hear him every Sunday. The best of luck to you and your family in your new pursuits. God Bless.
The 5th Grade Class
We are so proud of our 5th graders for all that they have accomplished in their time here at Sacred Heart. While we will miss them a great deal, we are also confident that they have a solid foundation that will serve them well moving forward. We hope that God will continue to bless each and every one of them and that they will always remember to trust in God.
Below is a short video celebrating our graduates and the growth they have achieved while at Sacred Heart School.
The Steve Henry Servant's Heart Award
As many of you know, a great friend of Sacred Heart School, Mr. Steve Henry, passed away this year. What made Mr. Henry so special was his willingness to help without any desire for recognition. He was a true disciple who did what had to be done, and he did it without complaint or hesitation. To honor Mr. Henry’s contributions, we have started a new tradition of honoring an outgoing 5
grader with the Steve Henry Servant’s Heart Award. This award was voted on by the teachers and staff of Sacred Heart who were given the following description.
“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” - Colossians 3:23-24
Named for a man who gave of his time and energy humbly and quietly because it was the right thing to do, the Servant’s Heart Award aims to recognize the 5th grade student who demonstrates similar qualities through their selfless actions. This student has faithfully lived out the Gospel without a desire for recognition or praise, but rather because it is what Jesus has called us to do. They have fulfilled the mission of Sacred Heart School by demonstrating Christian values at every turn and will undoubtedly take that servant spirit with them into middle school and beyond.
Our inaugural Steve Henry Servant’s Heart Award winner is Kadie Wade.
With the departures of both Mrs. Kellie and Mr. Duryea, we are now on the lookout for new PE and Music teachers. We would obviously like to have these filled as soon as possible so that we can adequately prepare for next school year. If you or someone that you know might be interested in either of these positions, please contact Mr. O'Neill.
2021-2022 School T-shirt
Here is the School t-shirt for next year! It was designed by the 5th graders and looks great. We will be ordering these over the summer to have for the start of next school year. We need sizes and to know if you would like extras for the kids or one for parents, siblings, etc. All student t-shirts (including the outgoing 5th graders) are paid for by PTO. Any extras or t-shirts for non-students must be paid for when you pick them up in August. If your child will be returning to Sacred Heart next year, please complete the attached form so that we can accurately order them over the summer.
T-Shirt Sizes and Orders
We are excited for Field Day on Wednesday! There will a number of fun activities for the students to enjoy throughout the day. Here are a couple of reminders for the day.
Students should be in free dress that day. They will be outside and running around most of the time, so they should wear comfy clothes and shoes that can get a little dirty and wet.
The Knights of Columbus will be grilling burgers and hot dogs for lunch. Remember that all lunches are free this year, so there is no charge for the students to eat. If you would still like to send them with a lunch you may.
There is a good possibility that the students will get wet towards the end of the day, so if you want to send them with a small towel that would be okay.
Last Dining Night (Day)
I want to thank all of your for your great support at our dining nights throughout this year. I don't know the final numbers yet, but we have raised way more this year than in years past. You have one last opportunity to grub and support the school!
